AR Protesters Bring 100 Carcasses

Activists displayed the carcasses of about 100 foxes, rabbits, minks, lambs, chickens and pigs in central Madrid Sunday in a protest against the treatment of animals.

Madrid Fur Demo 09

The demonstrators, all dressed in white, gathered in the Puerta del Sol square, in the heart of the capital's tourist district, each carrying one of the dead animals.
The protest was called to mark International Animal Rights Day and "call attention to the terrible life that each of these animals seem to have," said the Animal Equality association, which organised protest.

Campaigners had retrieved the carcasses from farms, slaughterhouses and game reserves around the country, they said.

"On December 10, Human Rights Day is celebrated around the world. For many years Animal Rights Day has also been celebrated, to show that animals that do not belong to the human species also deserve respect," it said in a statement.

Sunday December the 6th, Igualdad Animal / Animal Equality, have carried out a demo with more than one hundred activists each one holding and showing to society the dead bodies of animals exploited in farms. We showed pigs, minks, a cat, a fox, lambs, hens, chickens, fishes... all obtained from farms or garbage bins.

All remained silent throughout except one voice explaining what all those animals had to endure during their life and how they died and read a manifesto for animal rights and veganism. Everything was very emotive and all the activists made an emotional connection with the victims they were holding making visible the injustice they all suffered.

The public reacted very well, they took it as a serious thing and even
some of them were crying.
