EDM 569 (test animal testing) is going very well but there are still MP's
who haven't been contacted. The closing date for signatures to be in is
the middle of November. Could people spare a few minutes to go through the
attached list of MP's who haven't yet signed and email them to ask them
to sign this very important EDM. I actually didn't contact mine until last
week and after a bit of resistance my MP has now signed it. All you have
to do is Google your MP and you should come up with a contact email address.
You could send them something like this:
Dear --------,
I am writing to ask you if you would support EDM 569 which is asking for
a purely scientific inquiry into the efficacy of current drugs testing methods:
http://www.safermedicines.org/safetyofmedicines/index.shtml
The motion simply calls for a comparison of currently required animal tests
with a set of human biology-based tests, to see which is the most effective
means to predict the safety of medicines for patients. Thus even advocates
of animal testing should have no problem with signing EDM 569.
There is much scientific evidence that human biology-based technologies
for assessing drug safety may now be more reliable and comprehensive than
animal tests: hence the need for a scientific comparison. It will never
be possible to determine whether adequate alternatives are in place without
comparing the two approaches.
Such a comparison is urgently necessary for the protection of public health
and safety.
This EDM is concerned solely with science and human health.
