Mink Go on The Run From Ardara Farm, Ireland

What was described as a "large number" of mink have escaped from a farm in the Ardara area, it was confirmed yesterday.

The animals were being rounded up after getting out from their confines at the mink farm.

One motorist, who came upon the animals while travelling on the Ardara to Killybegs road on Sunday, said he saw a number of the animals dead on the road after they had been struck by passing vehicles.

"I saw five living ones. They were startled in the middle of the road - the lights were blinding them and they didn't move. When we saw the first one, my girlfriend thought it was a cat but I said to her 'that's no cat, that's a mink."

A number of other witnesses also reported seeing the mink who were being farmed in the Meenavalley area. They are understood to have escaped from the Anderson's Mink Farm.

Nobody from the farm was available to comment at the time of going to press. But a spokesman confirmed that the animals were being rounded up yesterday.
